Okay so I will do Christmas pictures eventually but with our new move comes a tightening of the belt and I am just itching to find cheap yummy recipes. I know each of you have at least one you can think of off the top of your head and I am very eager to receive them! So please give me some yummy cheap ideas. And I will even donate one for you all:
Townsend Special
(named after Thom's companion Elder Townsend you introduced Thom to this)
2 packages of ramen (any flavor)
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
1 can of tuna
Directions: cook the noodles...drain the water out.
Add the mushroom soup and a can of milk to it...cook until soup is warm
Add the can of drained tuna and enjoy! We like to put half of a packet of ramen flavoring in it as well as some pepper
This is super cheap and yummy...adding vegetables of any kid would be a great addition too!

I have been doing this really cool coupon thing called Grocery Smarts. Go to www.grocerysmarts.com the passcoad for Utah is g84rcm If you have trouble figuring out what everything means let me know. I have saved a ton of money.
I like to buy chicken when it goes on a really good sale at somewhere like Macey's for about $1.49/lb. Then I freeze it.
I make this dish with my cheap chicken:
3 frozen chicken breasts
1 can corn, drained
1 can black beans, drained but not rinsed
1 cup salsa
Sometimes I'll season this with a little cumin, chili powder and garlic powder and if I have it the juice of half of a lime. Throw this all in the crockpot together and cook on high for 3-4 hours. Shred the chicken and cook for another 1/2 hour. Serve in tortillas. You can add any toppings you like or just serve this with a little spanish rice. I have a really good recipe for homemade spanish rice but the box kind is fairly cheap. This is so quick and yummy. We can usually feed our two oldest and ourselves twice on what this makes. Hope you like the recipe.
oh my gosh, how funny! I was just about to post the EXACT same recipe that your friend Karlie just posted!!! Sprinkle some cheese on it (thank you WIC) and you've got such a good meal!
BTW, my mom makes it with ground beef/ground turkey...just as good.
Sa taught me this one...in Hawaii, we're not ashamed to use spam, so it may only sound good to us, but trust me...it's good.
chop up 1 can of spam(the smaller the better...it will stretch further)
chop 1 onion,
saute in pan until onion is clear.
chop 1-3 tomatoes and put in pan.
Stir it around for about 5 minutes and serve on top of white rice.
My kids eat this UP!
So, I will think of my favorite cheap recipe, although there are many. But... Hello!!! One of my goals for the new year is to find and then stay in contact with old friends. I am so excited that you have a blog. Your girls are adorable! I'm not sure if our blog address will show up under my comment, because I am new at this blogging thing myself, but feel free to go and look at renae-today.blogspot.com. I would love to hear from you. My e-mail address is renaemarienae@yahoo.com. I'm really looking forward to following your blog!
Hey Jamie-Jo! One of my friends from church started a meal exchange where we all get together once a month(about 7 of us)and we swap our frozen meals. The book is called:
Girlfriends on the Go: A Busy Mom's Guide to Make-Ahead Meals
It shows you how to round up other busy moms and organize your own Make-Ahead Meal Group. You each spend one night cooking a large batch of your favorite recipe, and then you get together and swap!
The book is full of inexpensive meals, recipes that freeze well and shopping lists are included.
So you end up having those pre-made ready-to-cook-and-serve meals in your freezer which is super nice. Plus cooking one large meal only once or twice a month also means that you don't have those hurried trips to the grocery store every other day which has saved us $.
Anyway, just thought I'd let you know. It's been a life saver for me! :)
My mom told me that the couponing website is very confusing if you haven't gone to a class. Another resource to learn how to save $ is shopsmartandsave.blogspot.com Her blog can teach you how to coupon. She is from Vegas, but it is the same in Utah. Also, she would know how you can go to a class in Utah. It is free by the way. Yesterday I went to Albertsons. Spent $97 and saved $68. It's great!
Thanks for the recipe idea! I'm always looking for something cheap an easy!
