I just can't say enough how much I LOVE this thing I made! It is awesome and helped organize our basement so incredibly!!!! I cant get into any box I want without moving all the others. I can see the labels (which none of them are correct right now but that is for another day!). I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! And I highly recommend it to the universe! I got the original idea from Pinterest that led me to a Studio 5 website with all the info. I am guess the info was pretty outdated because they said the project would cost about $50. Although I did make mine larger than their demo it was still way more money that $50. My project total was $113. If I knew to start with that it was going to cost so much I may not have done it but once I got started on the project I could NOT stop till it was done. Thom and I have both concluded that I am already nesting even though I am only 17 weeks pregnant!
Okay I made this to fit 18 gallon bins. My unit can hold 17 of these bins! It is VERY important to know what size bins you are using to start with so you can customize your unit to work with your bin size. The bins I used are right now on sale at Walmart for $5.47. Not a bad price!
I used 3/4 inch pvc pipe. If you go larger your bins can be really heavy but you will go up in price. I don't recommend going smaller but you are welcome to try it! I used 111 feet for 3/4 inch PVC pipe. I went to Lowes and Ace Hardware. The pvc pipe at Ace Hardware was much cheaper, costing $.20 per foot. They even will cut all the measurements you want if they have time / you don't mind waiting. I would recommend buying a pvc pipe cutter and just doing the cutting at home.
I used 52 3/4 inch pvc T connectors. They are cheaper at Lowes but I bought mine at Ace for $.50 a piece totaling $26.
I used 32 3/4 inch pvc X connectors. They are $2 a piece no matter where you buy them. This totaled $64.
I used 34 18inch pieces of pvc pipe, 72 7inch pieces and 18 12inch pieces.
Once it's all cut out it's just a puzzle piece and putting it together goes pretty quickly. The 18inch pieces go horizontal on the top and bottom of the bins. The 7inch pieces go vertically with the bins and 2 connect with a T piece with on each side of the bin. The T piece then connects to the 12 inch piece that connects the front and back of the organizer. This may not make a whole lot of sense. If you want more detailed pics just let me know and I'll insert them but if you just get all the pieces together and start building you will figure it out.
I am super proud of this project! It rocks! Good luck to any who may try it! Let me know how it goes!

You're amazing! I want one!
It's nice to see someone who made it work.
One question, did you use screws or glue or something to hold the pvc pipes in the joints, or are they just resting in them?
Amy: the pvc pipes at the joints are held together by being pounded into the T and X pvc pieces. Not glue or screws needed!
